My poor little jeepy running hot???

Have the 5.2L V8.... 122K Miles

First 10-20min of driving it will hover below 210 or on.
Past that it runs 215-225, stays like this for a while, I got stuck in traffic and it touched 230 but once i started moving it dropped to 220. Turning on the heat has no effect whatsoever.

Outside temps are about 85-90 with direct sunlight.

I've never owned a GC with the V8 so is this normal? They just always run this hot?

Thanks in advanced!

Mine was running hot too. I put hood vents in, changed the thermostat to a 180 degree. Now it runs at about 185-190 when its hot out, 180 when its colder out, yesterday it was 104 out, and it ran at about 190, then I parked with the ac on, and it took 10 minutes to hit 210. Drove 2 miles and it was down to 190 again. it has 142k. I need to flush my radiator.

Check to see if the rad is blocked, if there is mud and crap in it it wont cool. There might be air in the cooling system, to fix this you have to "burp" it. Have the jeep running with the rad cap off until bubbles stop appearing. recap and shut it off. There are a few other things it could be but there are the easier ones

what condition is your cooling system in? Rad clean? Newer water pump? T-stat?

All will have an effect on cooling. On any older car when this starts happening your best bet is to replace everything inlcluding hoses. This will ensure 15 more years of good service.

If you want to start with some on a budget, then start with the t-stat and perform a full flush.
