My New Project!

New to the forum, a few of you helped me to decide to purchase this ZJ from the insurance company after my soon to be brother-in-law "totalled" it, I thought I would post some pics to let those who had input see what the result was!!

The frame is in good shape, the hood has a tiny dent, and the fenders didn't move a bit! So I'll be putting a radiator in, condensor, heavy duty radiator support from kevin's, and a bumper like the ARB.

Specs: 1996 ZJ 4.0 Auto, selec-trac, 160k miles, meticulously maintained

If I run 2" spacers and disconnects with some 31" tires, will that allow for a "bang for the buck" appearance and performance upgrade? I don't want to mess with driveshafts.

Let me know what you think! PS- The Canyon did really well towing the Jeep, just kept it in 3rd and it towed very smoothly. And yes, I did disconnect and tie up the rear driveshaft for the tow

A 2" BB and 31s will make a huge difference in appearance and offroad performance. It's a great way to start out.

You might be hammering out the unibody where the front inner bumper is to mount another radiator support..I bet its crumpled behind there.. (right where the 2 oval holes are on each side..)

If the headlights were to stay in that position when you took the tape off, it would look like it was mad!

Looks like an interesting project, good luck.

yep, kevin's support is a tight fit on a straight front end.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.

If you want a really nice "bang for your buck" lift that will give you more hight and wheeing ability serch the F>R lift. Actaully I think it is somewhere in the FAQ.

The F to Rear lift is the best bang for the buck and gives you great trail capability.

I'll be looking into the F>R lift for sure. I plan on using either a nice big hammer or a bottle jack between the rails to get things back in line.

I agree, the headlights look angry. If the build goes as planned the rest of the Jeep will be looking a little angry by design this summer. The grill being flattened adds to the look.

Thanks for the input about the lift... that may be a good route to go.

Haha, this thing is a little too nice for that. The really it is very solid and kept in super nice shape... It just happened to have a 17 yr old behind the wheel at the wrong time. Now I will show the Jeep how it was meant to be driven
