Glad it worked out well and you had some fun.
OFF TOPIC: On the first part of the video, it looks like you've got an open diff in the rear end. The last hill climb looked slippery and you made it up pretty easy though (and nice fast forwarding on the editing that looks pretty sweet.) You should consider getting a locker for the rear and some meatier tires... you'll be amazed at how much further your ZJ could go under it's own power. Check this one out... I really thought I could clear that rock to get a better line - good thing I didn't bust my radiator. That climb is way more challenging than it looks on video and my friend had some traction issues with his locked YJ on 33 BFG KM2s. He made it up though but my rig made it look too easy.

Thanks. Gonzo did great all weekend. Nothing broke off like most people said it would. I was getting compliments all weekend on the front recovery design. The person that winched me both times, after looking at my setup said he would winch me out anytime. He was very impressed with the setup. The guide Sunday liked it. You can see him in the video hooking it to it while I was no the rock stuck. Here is your proof that it works and it works great.
Yeah this was my first trail run with the ZJ. It rained all weekend just about so everything was wet. The first part of the video doesn't really show it but that was a VERY steep trail. It was probably a 10-15 degree angle trail going up.
OT: I do want to get lockers and M/T but this is still a DD for me. Those things will come in time. My wife even wants to beef it up after this weekend.

Every time I am out with the wrangler guys they have trouble on steeper obstacles. I was out with my buddy in his 4 door JK and he even had trouble/slipping climbing some stuff that my track locked 249 walked right up. I think longer wheel base and larger motor building torque quick helps out.

Agreed polka. I had the same scenario open/LSD idling up an incline the locked locked guys on 35s spun on. I think it has more to do with the near even f/r weight distribution of the zj.
On to the recovery. A downhill winch high centered on a boulder recovery could be achieved with an ATV. And YOUDONT have to be rocker deep in mud to achieve those crazy 20klb plus loads.two weeks ago we We had a yj on its door in a ditch/drainage that wouldn't budge with 2 different winches (one doubled). We ended up putting a hilift on it and tipping the Jack several times with both winches going and that's dead pull. No snatching.
Props for going out of the mold but recovery points isn't a good one to start with.
I was a doubter and I still am
it does hurt your approach whether it showed in that trip or not
that pic I put as an example on the what did you do to your zj thread - that rock put a dent in my sheet metal bumper and as I said yours would not work there.
Keep wheeling!(just don't kill anyone)

There were a couple of times I was either in the same situation you were in the first pictures and I never had a problem. One being the rock I was on in the video and another was on a steep downhill, which is in the video as a picture. The front end never touched any ground in that whole trip.
Thanks for the props by the way. I know I'm not going to convert everyone but I believe I made something better than what I can buy for more than half the price and this past weekend I proved that.

Longer wheelbase I'd say 100%, but it also cripples us vs. the YJ in other situations. On the motor though, the YJ had a 4 cylinder so I think the weight difference (stock YJ at 2900 lbs) makes things relatively even being I have the 4.0 with 4.10s on 35s. Whenever he had some hopping issues, it was usually due to the steep climb angles. It's very difficult to balance and bounce a JY with a 4 banger and standard tranny over the obstacles he got over, and that alone is a testament to his driving skills.

I guess the peanut gallery has finally shut up since I proved my design works on the trail.
Thank you to the ones that stood behind me on this endeavor.

i was rather nice above (i thought) but that thing should still not be trusted. on those 2 pulls they could have just hooked up to your foglights and would have held just fine.
you have proved its strong enough to pull a rolling load. but it is completely untested beyond that in my opinion
and look back at your "peanut gallery"......not exactly a bunch of newbs

Keep dreaming. I was trying to help but since you did two pulls that I could have done with my Honda atv any day of the week, oh and you just won't go in the mud because you don't want to rip it off. Put simply you did a horse sheet job at engineering, then came on here trying to sell horse sheet to ranchers, since the ranchers didn't buy you touched a tiny bit against your tongue and are acting like it the best tasting stuff on the planet, and now calling us stupid for not buying your horse sheet.

You all make me laugh. Everyone that came and looked at it this past weekend ate their words when they saw it plus said they would hook up to me any day of the week in any situation. I'm talking about at least 5-6 people that saw it that weekend.
Speedbucket, You live in Virginia. I will gladly come to your house show you my setup and then drag your peice of **** all across your yard without bending one thing on my Jeep. Just to shut you the **** up.
Its like talking to a wall with you people. I know i will never convince you of my setup until it gets ripped off when someone pulls me out of mud going 60mph and i know that is what you idiots want me to do. I did get in Mud this past weekend but it wasn't needed to winch me. I was not going to waste anyone time trying to get winched out for the sake of you idiots pleasure.

I think it'll do fine in any straight pull, but tbh I don't think a side pull would be ideal with that thing, nor any stock tow hooks either. I think you should run a Steel tube from the side to the other side for extra strength, plus you can use it then to push over small trees

that is very doubtful, and the I6 can barely get out of its own way stock
there numerous posts on adding a piece of box in across the top of that thing to make it legit spend 12$ on steel and have your "master welder" tie it into the dropped brackets and you will get the cyber pats on the back i think you were originally looking for.

leave your pride at door on the internets
good luck!
