My CB Install Thread: Midland, Firestik

I put on my antenna today, I still have to install the cable and the CB headunit yet into the jeep. I like how it looks so far though.

I bought a 5 ft. firestik brand antenna. I bought a door jam mount for it and it is very sturdy. The mount was only recommended for 4 ft. but I don't think that other foot will matter.

Hopefully I will get the rest of it in this weekend. More pics to come!

The thing I don't like a CB sticking out there is that if you offroad in any woods, chances are you are going to get close a tree. Trees like to grab stuff. Won't be pretty.

that bracket would not last on my jeep. looks like it would be vonerable to branches. probably wouldnt be so bad if you didnt mount it backwards.

i think if it was turned the other way it would be less likely to get ripped off in the woods also a spring would help alot

Yeah I may have to move it to the otherside, it's a swivel one so if I want it on the right side I have to mount it that way.

Ok finally got the thing installed, I will get pics up later.

I am having a problem though. I have the antenna grounded to the frame and the cb grounded to the frame. I have Sirius Satellite radio antenna that is above my hatch and it is causing interference with my CB signal. If I move the satellite antenna will this help or am I just going to have to turn off my sirius when I want to listen or use the cb? Any suggestions or things to try?

I would start with grounding the CB to the battery, it sure helped to get rid of a lot of interference for me.

that's where i had it originally, it got better when it went to the frame. It's the sat. antenna. Don't know what to do though.

Here is some pics of my antenna mounts.
The two lower ones I made myself some 2 and a half years ago, and they have lasted well with heavy wind load antennas. They are made with Home depot plate molded to the inside of the door with a hammer.
The one unused my my Diamond K 400 spare mount and it is lip mounted with two set allen screws.
I find that the fact that the antennas are mounted in the tailgate towards the back, they have been less likely to get damaged, and I also like the fact that they are out of the way when the tailgate is lifted for loading.
I did add a grounding strap between the tailgate and the body at the hinge.

I think we have trail damage in the same spots on both of our jeeps. First, the tire catching the fender and now this. Except mine is on the other side. This tree got me.
