My 5.9 Got Rearended-should i buy it back from insurance?
So today my Grand Cherokee got rear-ended pretty good as i sat in traffic on my way to work after a long weekend. Pass side rear door wont open, and both frame rails are pretty kinked in-front of where the hitch bolts on by the shock tower attachments. With these trucks being harder and harder to find, do you guys think its worth buying back from insurance to part out whats left? has 230,000 miles on it but was always maintained very well. Motor strong, trans rebuilt at 210,000. only thing it needed was a transfer case and rear end (surprise surprise), both were getting noisy. I'm still waiting on the appraiser to come Friday and check it out, but id be very surprised if it was not considered a total. So, other than stock parts, i just did EBC Pads and Rotors all the way around about 800 miles ago, and a killer sound system, its more or less a stock 5.9, just didnt know what a rear-ended totaled one was worth in parts in your guys opinions. Thanks!
I planned on that I just mean is it worth buying back from insurance totaled to part out the hood, grill and other specific 5.9ltr parts that are hard to come by. I don't know if there's a big demand for the 5.9 stuff anymore??
I think the rims sell for like $100 a peice.. the Vents i think are $150 a peice or was it both.. the grill i know sells for alot. The badges sell for alot too.. The transmission you could probly get a pretty penny for as well.. the engine tho with 230k miles i dunno
2013 6.2 V8 Camaro SS 9k miles
1998 5.9 V8 ZJ 180k miles
1998 4.0 I6 Laredo ZJ 227k miles
Coincidentally I'm going to race at VIR In August. Looks like tracks about an hour and a half from you. I could get it that far in the car hauler-way cheaper than shipping it from Massachusetts. Should know in a week or so what the deal is if its totaled or not ill let you know. Thanks
The 46re is a hard one to find. I know because I have been trying to hunt one down for some time now.....
I remember talking to Wayne at APS Precision about that. The 46re used in the 5.9 wasn't used on any other vehicle. The case was special because of the starter being mounted on the passenger side. That makes them quite rare these days.
