my 44re shifting high?

i have a 96 v8 grand with 44re and when shifting to 2nd it shifts at 2600-2900 depending how i am on the peddle and 2nd to 3rd shifts at around 2200 but as sson as it hits 3rd its usually around 1700 then shifts to overdrive almost right away. Im about to do tranny fluid change and filter but my question is could it be something else i had to adjust like the bands or certain cables. Help would be appreciated thanks.

Sounds usual, at least for my 97 4.0. She usually shifts about those same numbers too. But idk, could be wrong, considering the trans went out in it a few months ago

I just bought a 98 zj with the 44re with 142k and I'm having the same issues. However, being a new zj owner I'm not sure if this normal or not. Mine shifts around 2500 going into 2nd and into 3rd. I threw some Lucas oil T-fix in there to see if that helped. If I let off the gas it dumps into the next gear. I've been babying it so far bc I don't want to damage it more. Not sure if the tranny is ready to take a dump or not. I'm interested in hearing the answer as well.

Lucas is the worst thing you can put in these transmissions.

Sounds like a band and tv cable adjustment is in order.

Adjust the TV cable,

I found after getting my 5.9 that you cant compare a 4.0 to a V8 the shift points are very much different. The V8's shift sooner the I6 shifts later. My 5.9 shifts around 1700-2100 rpm, the 4.0 is around 2000-2500 rpm. Torque converter on the 4.0 locks at 50mph, the 5.9 its at 40mph, and on the 5.9 1-3 gears shift quickly between 3 or so seconds of each other and then it stays in 3rd until you get up to 35mph for overdrive

Now you tell me! I was going replace the filter sometime soon anyway. I thought I read somewhere that Lucas t-fix was a good idea. I guess sometimes you do more harm than good when trying to fix something.

Thanks guys for the input, that's next on my list. Then I need to diagnose the rattle sound (sounds like a bolt being shaken around in a metal coffee can) when it revs right before it shifts into the next gear.
