mounting HF airhorn set.

I picked up this set and already taken care of the few things you gotta do to the set to make it ready, But i was wondering could i just plug the Compressor into the stock horn wires? i am mounting the horns to the breather box sides but the compressor i was just gonna mount under the left headlight where the stock wiring goes if i can use that wire for the pump rather than wiring in a new relay etc etc,

This is the set. http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt...orn-40134.html

nope...

IF I remember correctly, you will have a set of wires running from the Ign ON to the compressor, then you can use the OEM wiring for the solonoid in the line that actually opens and closes the valve on the hose.

Least , that's how it works USUALLY!

There ARE directions that come with the kit...

No valve, Its a simple kit 12V+ and a ground on the pump, When power is supplied to the pump it blows the horns, No tank.

Either way, read the directions. If it's not in your box, then you can D/L it from your link above.

I have a cheap set of air horns in mine and I have the stock wiring from one of the stock horns running to the compressor.(which is smaller than a soda can) It's been like this for over a year with no ill effects.

There should be a relay run from the stock horn wires to initialize the compressor. I had one on my bronco and its not worth installing. Please trust me on it.

Haha I just looked at the pic of the one you got. Mine is pretty much the same thing. Compressor just looks a lil different is all. Mine works fine using the stock wiring.

Now that he mentions it I would have to agree. Occasional instead of an air horn sound it makes a loud screech.

Most ZJ's (AFAIK all of them) have a horn relay in the Power Distribution Panel. So the stock horn wiring already has a relay. Adding another one in is rather redundant.

The only time an air horn would need a relay is if the compressor draws more than 15 amps.

And I agree with the above. I recently picked up a set of those air horns and they sound like 4 feral cats with their tails caught under the same rocking chair.

Ever seen I Love Lucy? Imagine Lucille Ball with her hair caught in a belt sander.
