Mom's WJ Rotor Removal

So I am changing my mothers WJ's front rotors. I have the caliper off and have been beating on it a little. Then I noticed it isn't attached like my ZJ's rotor. Do I need to remove the cotter pin and that huge nut in the center to get the rotor off? I am going to go have a few beers and wait for an answer

No!

Soak it with wd40/pb blaster and get a mallet smack it till it comes off.

Having a few beers always helps.So your on the right path.The only thing to do is what Nick mentioned is to beat it till it comes off.I had to just about bust my driver side off when I changed out my rotors.

The cotter pin & big nut you're referring to holds the axle shaft to the hub/wheel bearing assembly. No need to remove it.

It may take a long while to smack it. I always get to the point of about giving up, then after a few more minutes of pounding and spraying they always pop off.

Hope this isn't a dumb question for you, but did you alsop remove the caliper retaining braket? Might remind me of the time I worked on a Subaru, the piston twisted in, didn't realize that right away, thought I needed a bigger clamp!

Anyhow, if you did remove the braket...beat away!

Yeah, I removed everything. After chugging a few more beers things became clear that I just needed a bigger rubber mallet. 2 big whacks on each one and they flew off. I couldn't believe the amount of rust falling from between the two surfaces of the rotors Thanks everyone for the help.
