Mom needs help with jeep.

Hi I am a single mom who needs help!

I have a 1998 jeep grand cheerokee, when I bought it I did not get the key with the chip in it, Ive been using the remote to lock and unlock the doors. Now the remote has died and I have to take the jeep up to the dealers to get a new remote and to have it reprogrammed but when I open it the alarm keeps going off and shuts of the engine. Is there anyway to disable it so I can get up to the dealers??

Any help would be appreciated.

Use the key in the rear hatch. This will disable the alarm.

Try putting a fresh battery in the remote.

I tried that but the alarm went off again. Do I put the key in the rear hatch when the alarm is going off, or before I even open the doors??

Before I permanently disabled my alarm, I would use it in the hatch before unlocking the driver's door. Make sure you turn it as far as you can clockwise, mine was touchy.

I have tried every way possible but with no luck, so CAA will be giving me a tow to the dealership in the morning.

Thanks for all your help!

Thats what I have to do, but I have to bring my car to the dealership to reprogram the alarm. They quoted me $70 for a new remote, and $30 to reprogram it and the Jeep.

wow! www.keylessride.com for like $23 and make a friend at the dealership and they'll do it for free....or what happened to me was that they took a long time(20 minute) and i asked why it took so long to make a phone call to get a code for the key, and they said they're not sure so they just did it for free.
