Measuring caster angle

I did some searching and found this link

<http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoAlignment.htm>

I assume the d30 in the wj is a standard (low pinion, i believe) differential. Is their math accurate?

12 - diff cover degrees off vertical = caster angle

Thanks!

Thanks!

But, can I follow the websites way of measuring the caster by measuring the degree the diff cover is at? Is there an easier/another way?

Oh I see where you were going with your first post...The WJ is a standard low-pinion D30 - so that formula should work theoretically.

here is what IRO sent me at 4" & LA's

We recommend the following alignment settings:
Caster: +3.75 to +5.75 (+4.5 is preferred if possible)
Toe-in: +1/16” to +1/8”

Thanks guys!

I've got those IRO specs in my directions as well. The problem is, I don't know how to measure the caster or pinion angle.

So far my searching has only yielded the link to the xj alignment in my first post for the caster and other posts here on JF stating I need to buy a magnetic angle finder, which I have done, to measure the pinion angle.

I'm going to try to adjust the caster tonight or tomorrow, but I don't want to go into it flying blind.

Perhaps someone could give me some direction on how the caster angle is measured correctly if the linked website is insufficient?
