The TSi, option wise, has all the same base features as a Limited with the exception of the body colored cladding. Black TSi's got almost black cladding that didn't say "Lardeo" on it, and the other two color TSi's got lighter gray cladding; again, it didn't say "Laredo" on it. Mine is pretty far from a TSi at this point. I believe the only things it still has that was TSi specific for 97 is the darker faux wood that was later used in Niners and the dark cladding.

As far as I know, the 5.9 was only sold in '98 model year both for the North American and European markets. I have never seen or heard of a niner (ZJ or ZG) other than a '98.

I've heard of a 97 ZG with the 5.9 but not a 96

I thought that the 5.9 engine was available in the ZG as a special order in 97 but that the niner was only available in 98.

Well, maybe we were the proving grounds for the niner then, before it was introduced for the US- market

But, I really have never seen a 5.9 Grand Cherokee being sold anywhere in Europe that was not a '98 - with every single 5.9 specific trim piece. It doesn't mean there aren't any, but they must be rediculously rare if they really exist.

I have the FSM for the 1996 ZG, and it lists specifications and procedures for the 2.5l turbodiesel, 4.0l I6, 5.2l V8, and yes the 5.9l V8. I was quite surprised to find that 5.9l Grand Cherokees were built in Austria long before they decided to do it in Michigan. Even the vented hoods were European in origin.

Maybe a rare 98 trim.

So back in 98 my mom had a ZJ, I can't remember what the package or trim level was called but I remember there was something special about it. Maybe someone can help me? This jeep was a 98 ZJ Laredo it had body colored painted bumpers, much like the limited. It had Laredo leather interior with every option available, sun roof, heated seats, dual climate control, etc, and had the I6.
For some reason the "Z" package sticks in my mind. In the 4 years I was a jeep tech I can only remember ever seeing 1 other one that was packaged similar. Is this a rare one?

My buddy has one like that. Fully loaded Laredo with matching cladding. Only thing that set it apart was that it didn't have a VIC and the grill was chrome. They are not that rare.

Those are Laredo SE's. My parents' neighbor has one. Hers isn't loaded though. It has power cloth, the Infinity Gold system, a 242, a 4.0, and a sunroof.

Right. The Orvis was available in both colors.

The rarest that I have ever seen was a Red Grand Wagoneer. It was a mistake at the factory when they painted the body the wrong color and since the trim on the "Woody" is held in place with weld studs, the choice was to scrape it or build it. It was built and driven by the finance manager of the assembly plant and then sold as a used vehicle.

Now find that one and you will have a one of a kind Jeep.

It's funny. I started this discussion about rarer ZJs, and while I was driving around at work today, I spotted a maroon ZJ with the red interior parked in a front yard. Keep in mind the population of this town is all of 10,000 people.

What other low production ZJs are out there. I know 1993-1994 had the only factory 5 speeds, maybe 1500 total production. I know that a few others had optioned the red interior, as seen elsewhere here in JF. The pic above is a V-8 powered early ZJ, probably 1993-1994, 4WD, badged as a "Grand Wagoneer", a reference to the large, boxy, leaf sprung utility vehicle produced by AMC through 1991. What caught my eye was the vinyl siding and faux wood trim. How many ZJs rolled out of the factory optioned out like this?

-Joe
Very cool find, I've never seen a Grand Wagoneer in that color! Thought it was only Green or White.

I have a Grand Wagoneer in Hunter green and love the look.

Wow, my ZJ is rare? I thought all the 93 4.0Ls had the AW4.

I discovered recently that my ZJ was one of the very earliest production models, built some time prior to 16th July 1992.
