Low production ZJs

This morning while driving to work in my 1993 5 speed ZJ, I spotted this in the next lane and it got me to thinking...

What other low production ZJs are out there. I know 1993-1994 had the only factory 5 speeds, maybe 1500 total production. I know that a few others had optioned the red interior, as seen elsewhere here in JF. The pic above is a V-8 powered early ZJ, probably 1993-1994, 4WD, badged as a "Grand Wagoneer", a reference to the large, boxy, leaf sprung utility vehicle produced by AMC through 1991. What caught my eye was the vinyl siding and faux wood trim. How many ZJs rolled out of the factory optioned out like this?

IIRC there were around 6,000 of the "grand wagoneer" trim ZJs

The waggy was only available in 93 and I think only in V8. Somebody had 6378 as the number of waggy's produced, but I've no way to verify.

The mopar rear tire carrier is supposedly rarer than the 5 speed.

Other rare items include the AW4 auto in early 93 4.0's, the "base" model ZJ that has only a thin moulding instead of cladding, and the two piece center console.

The niner and orvis are both considered rare ZJ's but both have production numbers in the 15,000's.

The elusive south american ZJ is said to have iron d44's front and rear and may have had a locker in the rear. But nobody has ever seen one in person.

The TSi is also comparatively rare but given that the differences between it and the normal zj are negligible it doesn't get a lot of credit.

Purple and Green Jeep Grand Cherokee "LXs" are pretty rare, too. They were export only and equipped with the 5.9. There's a guy on FB who has a green one and a purple one. Other than him, there's only one other person I know of who has one, and he's in Sweden.

March 2014 GCOTM. 1998 Deep Slate 5.9
On the Jeep:Hot intake, 52mm TB, Summit 8mm wires, catch can, 703s, insulated fuel rails, indexed Champions, Bilstein 4600s, Eibach lowering springs, Moog SS, Ironman mounts, Lotek 2GP, lots of gauges, sparkly paint.
In the garage: M1 4bbl
In the works: Addco/Hellwig sway bars, nitrous, full polly bushings, full exhaust, data logging, billet UD pulleys

Green niners aren't actually at all uncommon here across the pond, you see them almost as often as dark slate or platinum - never seen a purple one though. There were dark blue 5.9s, but not purple that I know of.

I knew the Niners are sought after, but I never knew they had factory vented hoods. I have seen one purple ZJ around here, but as I recall, it was dead in a field. I can't say that I have ever seen or heard of the TSi or the "base" ZJ.

We've owned our '93 since new and after 21 years, it is starting to show its age a bit. The speedo has a mind of its own and jumps from 0 to 75, starting around 40 MPH. From there, when slowing, it will either wind clockwise around to the pin or fall back to 0. The wipers have one speed, low, and there are a few dents in the right doors from some debris that came off a semi and hit the ZJ while the wife was driving. Still, I can't picture getting rid of Reliable Red. I picked up a WJ with a bad motor for the wife to drive, when done, but the 1993 will be my go to vehicle.

I was just wondering about the oddballs out there, considering they have been on the road for 20+ years now.

TSI is just a laredo with a nicer interior. It has ugly rims and pastel purple/blue pinstripe. I'd pass.

Rare production models:

1993 Grand Wagoneer - ZJ V8 Limited, 4x4 only, faux wood trim - Estimated 6,000 produced
1993-94 Grand Cherokee 5-speed - ZJ I6 Base and Laredo, 4x4 only, AX-15 equipped - Estimated 1600 produced
1993-95 Grand Cherokee Base - ZJ I6, thin moulding, no cladding, 2WD or 4WD with AW4 and AX-15 transmissions in 1993 models - No production estimate
1995 Grand Cherokee Orvis Edition - ZJ V8 Limited, 4x4 only, UpCountry only, special interior, only green paint, optional I6 - Estimated 10,000 produced
1996-97 Grand Cherokee Orvis Edition - ZJ V8 Limited, 4x4 only, UpCountry only, special updated interior, green or light driftwood satin (97 only), optional I6 - Estimated 5,000 produced
1997-98 Grand Cherokee TSi - ZJ V8 Laredo, optional I6, Silver or Deep Amethyst Purple only, special TSi interior, wheels, badging, and side cladding - Estimated 3,000 or less produced
1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited - ZJ 5.9l V8 Limited, special calfskin leather interior, extra interior wood trim and leather, only 4x4, special body kit - 14,000 USDM models produced

In Europe, the 5.9LX took the place of the American niner and was offered from 1996, in a wider variety of colors. (If my ZG FSM is to be believed) The ZG Orvis Edition was also sold with the hood vents, and no real similarities to the ZJ Orvis. Neither is quite as rare as its American counterpart.

As far as rare options go, the red interior, manual door locks and windows, AM/FM-only radio, non-A/C-equipped 1993 model, 1992-production models, tire-carrier-equipped models, Mopar running-board-equipped models, steel wheels, power cloth seats, and some non-Orvis 1995 models equipped with Grand Cherokee badging on the doors instead of fenders, all make the list.

1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited
2016 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Edition

I didn't say I thought it looked good.

My 93 is red with light gray interior. The red interior posted elsewhere here, was too much, let alone in a red ZJ.

Wait, the cloth power seats are rare? Dang, I should go back and grab hardware from the one I found in the junkyard as spares for mine.

My 1993 has the 4.0/aw4. Not very common I'm finding.

I found my 94 factory 5sp on my local forum. As soon as I seen it I made it a mission to bring it home with me. A 5 hour drive and my bank account drained, I was a proud owner of a factory 5speed.

My local stealership though I was joking when I went to get sum mopar sensors for it.
