Low oil Pressure

This is my first time on the forum so I'll try not to bore anyone. I just bught a 99 Grand Cherokee V8, I have started getting a check gauges lite. It on beacuse at an idle the oil pressure is real low. Any simple fix ideas aside from the oil pump??

Just out of idle curiosity, how many posts does one have to have before he is allowed to bore people?

Your problem is most likely not the oil pump. The first thing to check is, of course, your oil level. If it is full, then the most likely culprit is the oil pressure sending unit. Which should be located on the forward end of the engine block just above the oil filter on your Jeep.

Optimally, how high should the oil pressure be?

I found that when the oil gets up to temp, which is a bit longer than when your engine gauge gets to temp, the oil pressure should be somewhere around 40/50. On the highway 60-65 for me is not uncommon.
