Loud Whirrling/Whooshig sound???

I have a 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo that is making a lound whirrling sound - I think it is coming from the back of the truck. It gets louder at speed and I can't hear it at idle......what would this be? Wheel bearing?

Ignore previous poster. It's probably the rear axle. I would have it checked to ensure it's setup correctly. The rear of my 99 blew at 55,xxx miles, so it had to have been messed up from the factory. I wasn't hard on it and it was always noisy and the dealer wouldn't fix it. Oh well.

That's that great dana 35 axle whine. will need at the least carrier and pinion bearings. And maybe a ring and pinion. Sorry to tell you this but it's fact and not fiction!!!!!!!!
