Loud clicking while braking

Howdy all. Just got done with searching. I have a loud clicking while braking. Seems to be coming from driver's front. Brakes have been redone last year with less than 1k on them. I did notice that the cv boot was torn on the driver's side and grease has come out all over.

Throughout the searches all I could find is 'clunking' noise when these go bad. It does only happen while braking and is speed related in pitch.

I have pretty much decided to replace the drivers side cv joint. Should both sides be done at the same time or does it matter on these?

2000 WJ 4.7L, Limited, 3" Iron Rock lift

Thank you.

As long at the passenger side boot is in good condition, there is no need to replace both.

Update

Replaced the front left CV shaft and discovered the noise was actually coming from the rear. CV shaft was shot anyway so it was in need of replacing.

Turns out that the clanking was being caused by wore out caliper brackets. Pads had gouged the surface that they slide on pretty bad. Ordered 2 so I could replace both. Not cheap from the stealership! $86 a piece. Bend over.

But clanking is gone. I had noticed the gouges when I did the brakes last summer. I tried to even them out with the whizzer wheel but I see that only held them out for about a year. They had regouged themselves again. Almost like they are a bit soft.

Oh well, hope this helps someone out in the future. Never had this happen before.
