Looking To Buy A Lift For A 1998 Gc...

I am new to Jeeps so forgive me for my stupidity. I recently purchased a 1998 Grand Cherokee, 4.0 with Quadra Trac.

I am looking at buying a 3.5" kit for now while it is my daily driver / beater and eventually turn it into more of a off road vehicle with little street use. I am thinking about the Rubicon Express kit or the Pro Comp 3.0" kit. I noticed alot of people using the RE setup but not any Pro Comp setups, any reason why?

Finally the dumb question, are all GC's all time 4 wheel drive and if not are the lift kits different for the all wheel drive??

thanks for the help,

Matt

Everyone here will say to go with the RE. It's a good kit, and I am considering it also, but do realize that it is not a complete kit, IMO. Then again, very few kits are complete that are under $1500. If you don't want to buy more stuff, you need to decide whats important as far as components and buy a kit that has the things you want/need such as control arms, track bars, shocks, etc.. Just make sure to buy from a reputable company. Good luck with your choice, it's tough to decide(looking at lifts now also). If you're on a budget it's even harder but expect to pay at least close to a grand for a quality kit with needed components.

Not all grands are fulltime, but that does not matter. The only thing it may affect is a Xfer case lowering kit included with some of the lifts.

RE is a good way to go along with a set up from kevins offroad or a front to rear swap may work out for you if doing your lift on a budget. there is a ton of info in the ZJ faq section. read up on that before you make any decisions and it will also answer alot of your questions.

Thanks for your help guys. I know I that most kits are not complete and I will have to purchase more, I was just wondering what everyone thought.

I have decided to wait until next spring and I will go with the RE 4.5" LA kit and I will start picking up the smaller pieces so when I am ready to buy the lift it will be all done.

Thanks again,
Matt

Going right for a longarm kit is a big jump. You have to cut off the lower control arm mounts and that means there is no going back.
