Looking for advice

Not totaly tech related but here goes.

I wrote awhile ago about my transmission not shifting into first gear. I want to take it in a get it looked at. The question is should I take it to a dealer or just a regular shop? Will a dealer have a better idea about what is going on? I called and they charge 90 bucks an hour for labor (a little steep in my opinion) and the other shop was 85 to take a look at it, but I forgot to ask what they charge per hour? I hear all these stories about the stealership, and that scares me.

I guess it comes down to, dealer or regular shop, what should I do?

I'd say go to a shop that you know is fairly reputable.

What I did when I was looking for a shop is go and talk to a locally owned general repair shop. I asked the tech who they sent their tranys to. I then stopped by the local privet auto parts shop (the one who’s employees actually work on their cars and know what is going on) and asked for their recommendation. Lucky for me they both blindly recommended the same place.
