If you've got a 249 tcase just don't lock the front until you swap in a 242 or are going to tow the zj to the trails. Locked fronts are no fun on pavement with awd.

You can also put a aussie in the back and do a true trac or selectable in the front.

mud truck might as well run aussies.

aussies/spartan/loc rite etc are lunch box lockers. go in teh diff, replace the spiders. would probably be 300 for the front and 400 and stuff for the rear depending what diff you have. if you have a D35 then they are cheaper.

good cheap traction if you don't run it as a daily driver.

also as stated if you have all wheel drive, (np 249) ditch it for a 231 or 242. google it; tons of info!

Alright fellas i sold of a project and have 1100 to dump in my zj this weekend. 400 is for some tires . Gimme some ideas on where that cash would be best spent on mods. That leaves me with 700 for parts and what not. Got another project selling for a grand . So that will be my second iteration.

This. No point in wasting money time and effort to run short arms only to realize you'd have been better going Long arms from the start.

Is the short arms why I don't have any flex? Like I said I'm new to jeeps so I don't even know what those are or their purpose

Not likely. I have stock arms, stock coils, and a 2" spacer lift and I get way more flex than that. I left the rear sway bar in and disconnect the front when I'm off road. Is your front sway bar connected?

It looks to me like you have either spacers that dont allow your suspension to compress and flex or you have extremely stiff springs.

Post pics of your lift, lets see what ya got

I get home in the morning will post pics then. I really appreciate all the knowledge and help. With proper guidance I can make this in to a pretty wicked rig. I'll probably start of replacing my ring and pinions front and rear. When I hit the gas it clunks when it kicks in in the rear.

Yes it's still in there should I take it out?

No you don't have to take it out but you should get some quick disconnects so you can unhook it while you wheel. If you leave it attached it will bend up the axle sway bar link mounts.

you don't need disconnects. just unbolt it. i do, and laugh at every idiot that buys JKS discos then complains about the clunks.

your first step is to find out what exactly you have for suspension in there right now. in all honesty, if you can, when ur home, go snap pics of your front and rear. enough of us jeep idiots here will probably be able to tell you what you have. but from your pics, the flex is pretty bad for a jeep, so i'd guess its a hacked together home brew 4" lift, which you might need to drop some cash into to make it work.

if you are building a mud truck, aussies and 33s would be a great option. with the V8 engine gearing on 33s isn't priority. i'd also go lockers over long arms. (for mud)
you can set it up short arm, but need to know what you are starting with suspension wise, then we/you/everyone on the interwebs can figure out the best/cheap options for you.

as for tires, 33s. i'd say you can start lookin

try and sell the 37s as well. more money for better parts!

Ya I sold my 460 for 600 and got a guy picking up the 37's on Friday for 500. So it's a good start. I know my front drive shaft is bad it clinks and clunks I found a kit for 350 that transfers it to the U joint set up. Seeing as I can't find a replacement shaft for that much I might as well. For sure on the pics they will be posted Friday morning when the sun comes up. I'm selling off my truck it's got a six inch rancho suspension lift in it I'm trying for 1100 on that one. So hopefully between the pics yalls knowledge and a little cash I can get a decent start on something
