Do a couple of calc's with paper and pen and compare to the display. Mine is right on.
Yeah we did a calculation with paper and pen and the display and we showed a discrepancy of only .3 the first time and .1 the second time, so we basically just make that an estimate.

This is my point^^^ Nice theory but not applicable.

I have seen a tire (with my own eyes) while wheeling with a 35" tire on top. It's not safe or ok by any stretch.

I have also seen a tire with my own eyes, so I am going to use context clues and assume you meant "fall off", so:

Did the straps fail, or the roof rack, or was the tire improperly secured

I'm actually curious

A tire flying off with neither strap nor rack failing is strictly failure to secure properly, ie "Pilot error", if the straps failed/broke, get better straps, or back them up with half hitches, but if the roof rack failed, ie pulled off, then there is nothing that can be done and I agree with you 100%, because at that point, the one unchangeable variable, the roof rack is untrustworthy, and the strap is only as strong as what it is secured to

Did the roof rack come off?

Yes. One side of the crossbar support failed.
