Life of the ZJ V8?

Hey,

My 96 ZJ with the straight 6 is beginning to become a money pit the engine is at a point where I am thinking of buying a newer ZJ and swapping out the lift and tires. I know a decent amount the 4 liter but what can I expect out the V8? I am looking at a 98 limited with the V8, 113000 miles.

I can't speak for every one, but my 5.2 has 156K on it and is running 95% like new.

got 166xxx on mine and still runs good. No rattles, no knocking, no pinging, no codes except for the 02 sensor.

If its been taken care of then it should last for a very long time. But every engine is different. You could have a major malfunction at 150k or it can perform flawlessly for 300K miles. It all depends how it was previously cared for and how you care for it. I suggest if you do buy it then change all of the fluids and do a tune up on it so you know that it was all done and when.

I've put over 200K on two different 5.2 motors. One in a 83 Ramcharger and then the Grand.

I had a reman installed at 152k after my 5.2 blew a head gasket. That was lack of maintenance though. Plus I beat the **** out of it with towing and such.

heh yah, the 3 months / 3000 miles thing is a scam.

Anyways, I have 241,000 on my ZJ. Motor has never been opened up (at all) and the tranny is original.

Smokes a little under hard accelleration of it I let it idle too long, but otherwise it's fine, and I beat the piss out of it!

My '93 5.2L has 295,000 miles on it, and as far as I know, it's all original. Runs a little rough, but not too bad.
