Leak detection pump

Well, i finally gave in and took my Jeep to do a smoke test to find out where the leak in my emmision control system was. From what they said it's the leak detection pump. I tried searching the forum, but couldn't find much. Anyone have to replace one? How difficult was it, and how much did it cost? One more question, could that be a reason for my terrible gas mileage? Any help is appreciated, as always!

I found one that looked pretty new at a salvage yard. On a wj, that sucker is squeezed between the left headlight and the airbox. It was easy to get out of the donor because bumper, grill and other stuff were already gone.

Factory svc manual says the unit is removed/reinstalled by removing only the airbox first. Did that, plus pulled the headlamp out, plus my rig has no fender liners or washer bottle to get in the way. Even then, it was a PITA to remove the old one (using vise grips on the wrong side of the bolt, where the threads extend into the wheel well).

I've only been able to put back two of the three bolts (8mm hex head). The space is so tight, I just can't get to the bottom bolt. Anybody done this replacement before? If so, got any suggestions on technique and tool?
