Last weekend mods (pics)

Completed projector headlamps/HIR bulbs/9005-fogs and iPod/iPhone adapter last weekend and wanted to share some pics.

I had posted pics of the headlamps upgrade on the wdydtygc-today thread earlier this week but finally took some nightshots.

Some before and after for comparison.

before with stock housings, low beams > low+high beams+fogs

after with projector housings, HIR low beams > HIRs + 9005s in fogs.

Then the iphone adapter.... man I love this thing; get to browse using the steering wheel controls, keep the CD changer and the music dims/pauses with incoming calls then picks up where it left. I followed Cebby's excellent write up here: http://www.jeepslimited.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemi d=94

That's all for now, let me know what you'all think.... oh, and yes, I do wheel my WJ, I just use tape

The difference while driving is notorious, the amount of light from the fogs with 9005s is insane and the HIRs work really good on the projectors; it's not HID, but good enough for me, and the extra money will go for LAs instead.

Ooops, sorry, I forgot I turned on the X-ray beams on that pic
I just did not have a good pic of the low beams outside so had to use that one.

The cutoff on those projectors is awesome. If i wasnt going total hid conversion, i'd want those.

Did they come with the amber LEDs or white that you modded out.

PS: Installing HID's in stock housings is bad. Here is why.

Yup, I love the cutoff, nice color on it too (hard to see on the pics). It came with ricey white LEDs for the side markers that I converted to amber LEDs.

Of course, HIRs only, no Silverstars crap on my rig j/k.

Super cool projectors, instead of normal bulbs you should go with the HID Xenons. You can get Chinese Xenons on ebay for 70$ shipped. I would suggest 6000k or 8000k. It will look perfect with the angel eyes too...

Thanks for your comments , but I'm pretty happy with this set-up. If I were to go HID (which I'm not planning on), I would then retro some real HID projectors in these housings, and get a set of OEM Phillips ballasts and 4300K, mayyyybe 6000K HIDs; that would be nice; but I could spend those $400-500 on IRO goodies which I plan on doing this summer.

Dont start that again. And, As i had a few industry papers open on the hirs, the toshiba ones actually are brighter then DOT's limit (at least for low beam) by about 350 lumens... so in retrospect, i'm going to stop recommending them for low beam applications.

Of course, with the cutoff on those headlights you have, it shouldnt affect oncoming traffic at all.

How'd you do the LED conversions? Did you just find some ambers at the same rated voltage, or did you have to do some re-wiring?

Again. If I wasnt going HID/HIR with an existing conversion, I'd consider those.

I know all about your qualifications now though, so let's just leave it at that; it's all good, no need to get carried away

As far as the side markes, was easy, just pulled the stocker white LEDs (194s style), put new amber LEDs, done.
