Largest tire in spare tire area

What is the largest tire I can fit in the stock rear spare tire holder?

How do you handle carrying a spare? I can't do a roof mount system, but also don't want to be without a spare. I'm thinking of running 31"s when I put my 3" lift on.

Thoughts?

I had 245/65-17 at about 29.5" and just fit in the wheel. As far as height anything larger than the 245 the lit will be raised.
If you have time, do a search as there have been 1000's of threads on the subject.

32 isn't going to fit. Maybe a 30 or 31.

I have a 2000 WJ. It came from factory with 245/75/16's (basically a 30 inch tire). The factory wheel well is pretty snug. I don't think a 265 would fit. Don't know this for a fact, just going by looks.

**Edit** guy in post above has first hand experience with 265 tire.
