KOR Radiator support: Install

Its been way too long for me to go without front recovery so KOR's radiator support was the answer for me.

KOR radiator support: $115 http://www.kevinsoffroadmanufacturing.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=219_138
D-rings: $17 http://www.kevinsoffroadmanufacturing.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=219_138&pro ducts_id=286

This job was quite easy and straight forward. Basic tools will easily get the job done, I also used a drill due to the product not fitting perfect. I will not cover bumper removal in this write up but if you run the stock bumper you will need to remove it to install the support, also the bumper needs to be cut a tiny bit to make the product fit properly, see KOR's website on how to do this.

So here is the radiator support with tow shackles and hardware.

Start by removing the 6 bolts that hold the OEM radiator support in place, 3 per a side.

The radiator support will pretty much fall off and the hoses will hold the radiator in place so don't be alarmed when it drops a few inches.

Now youve got to get rid of this thing. Theres 2 bolts in the fender, remove them and pull it out. Do this to both sides.

There are rubber grommets on the OEM support that you can use if you want, you will have to trim them to make them work though. I just tossed mine since they were torn to pieces. Trim the guide pegs to about 1/2" so they will fit the KOR support w/o bottoming out.

At this point its time to mount up the KOR support. When I did this I noticed that the peg holes didnt line up perfect but they were close so I got out the drill and elongated the holes, it then slid right in to place. Hold it in place and hand thread the bottom 4 bolts. It may take some fidgeting to get it to slide on right you may also need to move the radiator some to get the pegs to drop in to place.

Tighten all 4 of the bottom bolts down. Its time to do the side bolts. Again my holes didnt line up perfect but this time It was the frame holes I had to modify. To do this on the passenger side I had to remove the horn, to do it on the driver side I used a right angle adapter on the drill because there was no way I was going to remove the evap canister just to slightly elongate 2 holes. Insert the frame tabs and hand thread the bolts in place.

Tighten everything down.

Install the D-rings and admire

How much clearance do you think you ended up gaining? I added OEM hooks last summer, but I am thinking of switching to the KOR support if the clearance benefit is good enough.

I feel like i picked up a good 2-3 inches of clearance. Not only that but the smaller KOR rad support is much stiffer than the stocker. I did however have an issue with my "frame rails" so i just put a wood block on a floor jack and jacked the support into place. It actually lifted my suspension, then popped into place. I do however wish they made it for the standard 1" shackle.

In what way? I'm not running a bumper cover right now and I have OEM hooks. My biggest problem is that if I approach something tall and steep, my hooks will hit before I get a tire on it. I'd much rather have them further back and up if possible, which is why I'm interested in the KOR support. I might have to go ahead and buy it and do some before and after measurements.

mine fit like a glove, and not oj's like yours. i bet your frame is tweaked from a collision or other twisting.

^ Or that KOR designed the brackets for the 96'-98' and not the 93'-95'

Theres probably a slight difference in where they put the holes... considering the 96-98 is slightly longer than the 93-95.
