Keyless entry

When I bought my jeep from a dealer the keeyless entry was missing. They give me another remote from a 98 jeep GC (same make and model as mine) and told me to get it programmed to my jeep. I took it to the dealer and they told me if it didnt match then it wouldnt work and they couldnt fine out until they tried to program it which cost $30 each time. Do you guys know how to program a keyless entry. I would really appreciate your help.
