Keyless Entry

I have 2004 Grand Cherokee Laredo - keyless entry only works if right up next to passenger door where module is located.
Dealership says $275 for new antennae transmitter/receiver...is there anything else that can be done or tried before replacing to extend range to opposite side of car?

Thanks for the help!

There is a battery, in fact I think it is two batteries, inside the remote control for the Jeep. It is known as a fob.

On the side of the fob is a notch that you can use a dime in to seperate the two half's. I got my batteries at K-Mart and Radio Shack.

Hi
Sorry the fob is the remote. There is a TSB 08-011-03 for this fault (2003 year module)
http://www.wjjeeps.com/tsb_list.htm#0801103 part numbers
5JM61DX9AB Door Module, Passenger (WJ - Domestic Mkt.)
5JM63DX9AB Door Module, Passenger (WG - International Mkt.)
so the other way to do it cheaper is to fit the module yourself and then just pay the dealer to programe your remotes.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. remove the passenger side door panel.
2. Remove the old door module from the passenger side door panel. The old
door module will not have an external antenna wire.
3. Install the new door module while temporarily routing the external antenna wire
along the door panel above the electrical wire harness.
4. If the vehicle is a WJ, route the external antenna wire through the two
support loops and tape the antenna to the door panel at two locations. The
WJ external antenna is 431 mm. (17 in.) in length.
5. If the vehicle is a WG, the external antenna wire is 533 mm. (21 in.) in length. Route
the WG antenna wire through both support loops and tape the antenna wire to the door
panel. Tape the remaining length of antenna wire to the electrical wire harness.
6. Install the passenger side door panel.
Book time is 0.3 hours so donít know how much the dealer was going to charge.
hope this helps
Regards
Merlin.

I am not so sure he has replaced the batteires in the FOB.

Besides, he has an '04 so the TSB should not apply. I have an '04 and had to change my batteries last year. It is about time for the batteries to be going bad on '04's

I understand there is a TSB on it but here is something to try.
It may sound stupid but point the FOB / transmitter up at/under your chin, instead of pointing it at the vehicle. Not sure how it does it (somehow it uses your body like an antennae ) but this does increase the range of a Key FOB, I learned this trick from an alarm installer years ago. it WORKS.
