I've been working my butt off on this Jeep since I got it in January, first up the rear locker broke so I ended up replacing the axle with a Ford 8.8, all new adjustable control arms, new track bars, I also kept fighting a high speed vibration with the front drive shaft installed, so after a new multiple cardan joint drive shaft from Tom Woods and that still didn't fix it, so I ended up going with lock out hubs and that took care of it, so then I proceeded to give it a new paint job.
Well about two weeks after I finished painting it I was headed home and some "A" hole pulled out in front of me and I smacked into him going 45 mph. :crying2: Well it totaled the Jeep to say the least. I'm very thankful I had the ARB bumper on the front I really think it would have been a lot worse.
The good thing is that most if not all the suspension parts are still good along with the rear axle, so I will be purchasing another ZJ and starting over.
Wow, I guess that camo worked a lot better than you thought. "Officer, I just didn't see him. He seemed to blend in with everything!". >
Kidding aside, that's a real bummer, as it looked like it was a nice ZJ. The other SUV definitely took the worst of it. It looks like both are totaled. Too bad. Well, good luck with your upcoming project.
Sorry about your rig. I hope that the insurance adjuster is fair with you on the total loss.
I'm not sure if it's just stupid people distracted by phones or if these ZJs have a stealthy size and shape, but I have had more vehicles pull out in front of me with my ZJ than any other car. I now run my 1,260 lumen LED pods day and night so people will notice that there is a two ton Jeep heading toward them. Seems to have helped some.
Subbed because I'm curious to know how the insurance will handle it as far as reimbursement for the Jeep. I've spent nearly 3 years getting my TJ to the way I want it and I'm afraid of something like this happening.
I run two LED Pods on my TJ all the time. Definitely helps grab peoples attention a lot more.
Will they reimburse you for Just "their estimated value" of the Jeep or can you get money back for all the work and aftermarket parts you put into it like the bumper?
That ARB bumper definitely helped a lot. I've got a Highrock 4x4 from Bestop on mine. Curious to know how it would hold up in a similar situation.

They ended up giving me fair market value which turned out to be $2500.00 after I bought it back for 200.00, they wouldn't accept any receipts I had for repair parts such as radiator, motor mounts, alternator etc. due to the fact they were more than three months old. I explained to them about all the work I had done on it but it didn't sound like they would have settled for anymore if I decided to let them keep it. I think the only way to protect yourself is, would be to have your own full coverage insurance.
I ended up getting out of it what I initially paid for the Jeep with the bumpers, the rear bumper is obviously still good and of course all the suspension, but unfortunately I'm out of all my time I put into it...
Actually I was beside and slightly behind a bigger truck, so he pulled out in front of the truck first and made it, but he never considered that someone might be in the inside lane, so in a sense I was camouflaged by the truck, it just amazes me that people will go when they can't see that everything is clear...

When i asked AAA about insuring my jeep for the full cost of the restoration they had no insurance plan for that. So I took the "liability-only" insurance.
If anyone knows who offers "classic car" insurance, please let me know.
Sorry for your loss.. Some guys around here would probably take that off your hands as it is, fix what they need to (as long as the frame is not bent too bad), and drive it as a trail rig. Look on the bright side, now you have a supply of parts.
Luckily I'm not with out a Jeep, I purchased this one back in July for the wife, right after the wreck I purchased a ARB front bumper for it.
I just picked this one up the other day to swap all the parts onto and make it my new trail rig...
