Just bought Jeep needs Serpentine belt?

Okay so I bought a Jeep a 2001 WJ for $2,000 it needed tires bad so i took it to get tires yesterday and they asked if i wanted an oil change so i firgured what the heck. Well after he was done the guy said I need a new serpentine belt and said they'd do it for $140 but i looked at it and it is a little cracked should I replace it? Also My left rear tail light stopped working all together it was dim and i put a new bulb in it and now it doesn't work at all? What should I do?

that sounds like a great deal for a belt that costs about $30 and 5 mins to change.

As for the rear brake light, I would check all fo the connections 1st. Verify your grounds are OK.

5 minutes might be a little long. Maybe 1 minute slip off and 1 minute slip on.

Hell yes, I'll replace serpentine belts all day long for $140 a belt. Two things any driver should know, how to change a tire and how to change a belt.

take the housing off, check the connections on the bulb socket, then check the cicuit board for cracked or burnt connections. if none of those apply, get an new taillight housing like every other wj owner has to.

Dude, the belt is super easy to do, 10 mins max....just need a wrench and the routing diagram it under the hood.... paying that much labor is insane...$25 for a decent belt and about $40 for a good one at any local parts store.. I recommend the Goodyear Gatorback...

alright i found the problem, apparently this is a common problem with the 2000 grand cherokee is when your headlights are on the left brake light doesnt work but when they are off it works fine. so i just gotta buy new lights.

wait whaaaaat? that doesn't make any sense- what in the light would just cause it to not work when the headlights are on. It really sounds like a bad ground somewhere.

it's the housing shorting out, it's so common you may as well buy a new set of tail lights when you buy a wj.
