Jk ring gear?

So in my search for the d44hd 4.56 ring and pinion and coming up on a waiting list, in being told that I can take a jeep jk's gear and just drill out my carrier holes to accommodate the bigger bolts. Now with this being said would I need to swap yokes and use the jk's pinion seal? I'm hurting for these gears in a hurry and I would love to have a way around the wait.

The JK D44 gears will fit the ZJ D44HD housing. You get the benefit of the larger 8.9" ring gear. You will have to drill out the carrier since the JK uses 7/16 or 1/2" ring gear bolts. The kits I sell come with a replacement yoke, since that's different as well to match up with the JK pinion.

VERY interesting info, I'll keep that in my notes!

Wow, I had no idea that was an option. As JK gears tend to be cheaper than D44A due to economies of scale, how does the price for your conversion kit compare to a regular set of D44A gears, in say 4.56s?

I had heard rumours of this, but no concrete facts. It's been said of both the D44a (D44HD) and the "new" D44 rear on the JKs that they are close to D60 strength regarding R&P. I do know the D44a and the new iron D44 both have significantly thicker pinions than the standard D44 does.

IIRC JK D44 has a 32 spline flange yoke and uses 1330 u-joints? The 32-spline pinion wouldn't hurt with the 5.9 torque

I would think that would be a PITA I believe the ring gear will be hardened, but I am no expert.

You're not drilling out the hardened ring gear, you're drilling out the D44A carrier so you can thread through the larger bolts used to secure the JK44 ring gear.

Ive finally got everything for this swap. Although the master overhaul kit i got came with OEM zj ring bolts and not the jk but thats an easy fix. Even got a crush sleeve for the jk pinion as well with the kit that came from Kolak. Im hoping the pinion bearings are the same size to match the housing on the zj. Ill be attempting the swap in the coming weekend or so and ill post any problems and the results when im done just so you guys can get an idea of whats involved.
