The Jeepnasty

hey everyone, I've been more of a lurker on here then anything but i thought id share my 97 zj with everyone. Its more of a show and tell i guess since i never started a build thread. I live in nor cal but spent 7 years in san diego so i got into dezert racing prerunning etc. Never been into crawling or mud for that matter, just more exploring and go-fast stuff. i wanted something different then a typical so cal prerunner ranger and i wanted a v8 (no sissy 4.0 lol) and 4x4 and thats what led me to the ZJ i have now.
Ive been collecting parts for the last year and got it lifted and finished ( is it ever really finished ? ) in november. i just took it on its first desert trip last weekend. She did pretty good !! drove her 450 miles to san diego, then drove out in the desert for 2 days, then drove the 450 miles back home with out an issue other then a bad oil leak lol.

heres some specs
-97 laredo v8
-iro adjustable long arms in front
-4.5 iro front springs
-iro double sheer track bar
-2.0 FOA 12" resivor shocks up front with iro adapters.
-etxtended brake lines from crown
-iro adjustable rear track bar
-skyjacker 3in rear springs
-iro rear control arms (fixed lowers, adjustable uppers)
-iro extedned sway bar links from and rear.
-2.0 FOA 12" resivor shocks in back (valving is medium compression, med/light rebound front and rear )
-outlaw 2 wheels ( with spare in stock location )
-kumho kl78 AT's 32x11.50
-new axles shafts from and rear
-new timken hubs
-new deck and rockfordfosgate speakers.

I've fixed lots of little things on the zj and I'm sure I'm forgetting some things in the spec list. Heres some "build pics" along the way that i managed to take.

So heres some pics from the desert. We went out to superstition which is near el centro. There was a good group of us and an arsenal of fire arms aswell lol Theres also i military base near by so some fight jets were "buzzing" right above us. you could see the pilot, that was pretty cool. We also went out to a bombing zone with a bunch of old tank that they practice bomb or ?? not sure but it was pretty cool. It was a good drive from camp so going through the whoops, washes and dunes was fun. Like i said the jeep did good. i didn't even need to air down when others were getting stuck lol.

Nice looking ZJ. If you got rid of that "wimpy" 5.2 (LOL), and put a 5.9L in there, that front end might drop down a touch to even things out.

Kidding aside, you definitely would not have wanted a 4.0 in that thing, with the big tires, etc. Granted, their not huge, but the 4.0L is hard-pressed for power in a ZJ as it is. Have fun with your Jeep.
