Jeep Shut Down Noise

Lately when shutting off the jeep it shuts down really rough and rattle really bad, sounds like the exhaust is knocking around. The exhaust is tight, and the motor mounts look to bee is good condition. I also get a metal rattle when driving, It sounded like the muffle bouncing around but everything is tight and bolted up. Also the noise (not sure if it is related) coming form the font passenger wheel, it rattles sometimes whines others. The shock and springs are new nothing looks out of place, the CV boot is still in tact and seems solid could the CV joint still be bad though? They are all odd noises that cant seem to pin point.

The shut down & metal rattling may be coming from a bad cat. All will appear well when looking at the system. Put a piece of hose, or a broomstick against the cat & put the other end to your ear while someone does a shutdown. You may be able to pinpoint it that way.

Just because it is new does NOT mean it is right. We had a new car that the Ford factory "missed/forgot" to weld together.
Could be a loose heat shield??? Kind of hard to tell from here

I have the same thing. I found that after the cat, the pipe turns up to navigate around the rear axle. At the point where the exhaust pipe starts curving back down I noticed that it is rattling off of the rear axle. I went out and bought exhaust wrap (usually used on performance cars) and wrapped the exhaust at that point and it has all but gotten rid of the rattle. The wrap is a little pricey but its cheaper than a new exhaust.

There is a trans mount.. on the dubs its attached to the cross member. could also be your heat shield, and if the cat is brand new... if the shop was rough durring install ie drop it.. which when they are getting paid all of minimum waige.. what do they care? Some of the internals could have gotten knocked loose, but i second the use of a broomstick to listen to the cat as you shut the jeep off.
as for the other thing, yes it does sound like you cv is wearing out, and yes it is possible for them to wear out before the boot does. Ma's subaru the boots outlast the joint all the time

Micifus,

check the exhaust where the pipe comes up and over the track bar. If your exhaust hanger is just rubber it could sag and allow the exhaust to clang against the track bar when you shut the jeep off. I had this problem and made a custom hanger that allows me to raise the tailpipe which raises the section above the track bar enough not to hit. One more thing to look at is make sure the muffler is not "falling" to one side. If your muffler has an offset inlet or outlet the weight of the muffler and/or tailpipe can cause the muffler to twist at the connection between the cat and muffler and the tailpipe drop. This happened to me when the garage just tried to use exhaust pipe clamps to hold a 2" diameter tailpipe plus the weight of a stainless steel flowmaster muffler to the cat. I needed to get it tacked in place to keep it from moving.

Good luck,
turk

What size socket is need to replace the CV joint I would search for it by CV is to short of a word haha and I cant find it in the FAQ, i know its up there some where 32mm?

They just slide in and out right? 15 minutes job with an Ingersold and Rand air gun? I have never replaced them on the jeep and I have owned it for over 50,000 miles. They might be the orignal but I doubt it.

Im convinced the noise is the muffler knocking off the rear sway bar or track bar. The muffler was clamped up and has now turned slightly and is knocking off the one of the bars. It must just vibe all the way up making it hard to pin point exactly where it is coming from.
