Took the GC out a week ago, parked it for two hours while on a hike. Got back in and there was a ticking or rattling in the drive train below the shifter.
Towed it home, still made noise with tranny in neutral. Only when the TC was in nuetral would it dissappear. ZJ has 105,00 and is the first major problem outside of a recall. It sounds like the transfer case chain is loose and rattling inside the case. Noise came out of nowhere, had never heard anything like it before. Had not shifted to 4WD in a few weeks. Still shifts through all 4wd positions 2H-4HP-4HF-N-4LP and works as it should. Can anybody suggest a possible causes and a repair. Is it worth it to tear apart and rebuild with a chain and master rebuild kit, or find a rebuilt or used NV242. What about a transfer case service manual or online repair manual or even online articles about rebuilding. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Dont want to spend a grip taking it to a shop!! I'll be waiting
