Yea having an open shop is amazing. I wouldn't have been able to do 90% of the work without the shop. Quite simply, they have all the specialized tools that just does not make economical sense to purchase.

def not gonna happen since the shipping itself would probably cost $200 (look where i'm from)

i will be installing the front bumper/winch, off-road lights, cb radio and dual battery setup tomorrow. pretty excited.

Bummer dude, I'm looking for one and JY wants $300 for them here. I'm looking forward to the dual battery setup. I will be doing that soon too.

ugh, turned out they don't have the battery isolator that i needed. so i'll be putting that project off for a little bit. i could set it up without an isolator, and have a manual switch, but i really rather use an isolator.

another project i might do is making a switch for the infamous fuse 17 - interior lights. can't figure out what is keeping the damn lights on, so i'm just gonna make a manual switch for the fuse and just turn it on when i need interior lights. very soon, i'll be in 20-22 hours of darkness. def need the interior lights.

The fuse was pulled in mine. I replaced it to see what the issue was, and once I started driving it a bit, I realized the lights weren't turning off. The manual switch isn't a bad idea, but I really want to figure out why it is doing that and fix it. Also, I have an odd popping noise, usually 5 in a row about a seconds apart, coming from behind the glove compartment. That's another one I want to figure out.

SUN 21OCT2012 - Front Bumper + Winch

i've been waiting two weeks to get on with this project! finally got a bumper/winch. so excited! looks better in person. i've gotten stuck so many times so far and had to get towed out. a winch was a must-have for me. took me about an hour or so to install it.

also started setting up my cb radio and off-road lights. wanted to finish it today, but standing outside for 2-3 hours in 0 degrees weather finally got to me. so so so wish i had indoor garage to work in. (i have an open shop near me, but didn't feel like paying them for something i could do in a parking lot).

Looks good with the bumper, just add a few lights to it and you'll be set.

I couldn't live with 22 hours of darkness, I hate going to work and coming home in the dark enough.

yep, i have a set of lights ready to be installed.

yea, darkness sucks. going to work in pitch black, and leaving work in pitch black. basically, when you eat lunch is when you get an hour or two of sun. alaskan summer is the best in the world. alaskan winter is the worst in the world.

gonna try to install the skid plates on friday and take it out on a near-by trail on saturday.

Your Jeep is looking really good! Love that bumper+winch. You should throw some fresh paint on the bumper if you can get a chance (course i imagine it wouldn't stick in that weather). Keep up the good work!

yea, i really want to paint it but i really don't know where i'll be able to get that done. the open shop i go to does not allow body work to be done in there (understandable. you don't want paint fume and metal grinds everywhere).

can't wait until i take it for a ride this weekend. first time i'll be playing in the snow with my jeep.

SAT 27OCT2012 - Skid Plates

putting the fuel tank skid plate was a major pain in the a$$. def would've liked to have a second set of hands. doing it by myself was a really dumb idea and it was dangerous. there were many close calls where i could've gotten my face smashed by the plate or the hitch receiver. and the fact that i have a custom pseudo dual exhaust setup made it that much more difficult. after half an hour of struggling to fit it in, decided to just shave an inch off the plate.

finally in. i've been desperately wanting a fuel tank skid plate. just the thought of having that plastic tank getting punctured on a trail gives me a nightmare.

i already smashed my transfer case once and broke a driveshaft. def another extremely important piece of armor.

skid plate for the front/engine. not as important as the other two plates since if you hit something high enough with enough force that actually hit the plate, the chances are that it also messed up your differential and axle so you are generally, overall, totally f-ed. i guess it would help protect the fan, drivebelt and such, but i just don't see it providing essential protection. however, of course, it doesn't hurt to have it.

i would love to paint them, but it's too cold. wish i had an access somewhere indoor where i can paint. the open shop i go to does not allow painting (understandably so). anyway, now i'm ready to go play in the snow tomorrow!
