Internal Spring Compressor Stuck

Rented one of those internal spring compressors from O'reillys. All went well except for the rod that connects the two claws is stuck inside the coil...like a bump stop. I can't wedge it out and I really don't want to backtrack.

Any tips?

Rent or buy the outer spring compressors? Compress a little bit to give room, then remove?

May have to back track.

NAPA has the outer compressors and it was like $80 to rent. (You get full back when returned). That inner compressor is useless and is more trouble than good...

Just trying to keep her goin'!!

I got it. I salvaged my two part external spring compressor that broke (harbor freight) on one side. Compressed one side of the spring so that the coils would spread...eventually got enough room to wedge out that bar.
