intermintent bogging, sputtering and popping

good morning everyone, This all started off yesterday on my way home from work when my check engine light came on and the jeep would not hold cruising speed. So i come to a stop at the next red light and found the idle to be smooth and consistent, then the light turned green and it became very hesitant almost like it was running out of fuel (had half a tank at the time) It seems the problem is mainly between aproximately 10 and 75% throttle, as when it is idling it is fine, and when more then 75% throttle is applied it seems to fight through the bogging sputtering and popping sounds that it would otherwise make.

Any ideas guy?

You have a CEL , what's the code ?

JIC , you turn your key to the on(not start) position , then off-on-off and on again . This should work on all years except 98

it should flash via the check engine light itself . It will start with 12/blink....blink blink , and end with 55/blink x 5.......blink x 5

Your looking for anything in between

You can also get a more specific code using a OBDII scanner . This should be free at your local parts store in many cases .

i was also thinking that, but i replaced the cat, both O2's, muffler and tailpipe back in may with mopar O2's, walker cat and dynomax catback...

The popping sound it makes while bogging down is making me think its a lean condition maybe a fuel pump, filter or both?

Id rather find out before pulling down the tank and doing all that though

I'm thinking throttle position sensor . I just had a little issue with my 97 Cherokee , rather , bought with it . Symptoms sound the same . My cat's toast to the point of annoying rattle . Works fine with the TPS issue resolved . Maybe a little harder on gas than it should be Cat's next on the list

would low fuel pressure cause a MIL? Without checking the code yet im guessing that it is going to be a lean code, judging by the popping sound you can hear in the exhaust during the sputtering.
