Interior Roof Leak

This morning when I took a turn I heard a snap (have heard similar noises before, just thought it was due to the cold outside) and noticed a few drops of water fall from the interior roof. When I checked it out there were a few drops coming from a spot at the very edge of the headliner between it and the passenger side door. I mean literally over the edge of the headliner where it meeds the rubber covered hard metal seal around the door. The headliner does not seem to be wet though. Any idea where the water is coming from and what would have caused it? Thanks.

BTW: This happened last winter too. I backed out of my driveway and noticed a few drops fall in the same spot but was never able to trace where it came from until now. Othere than this nothing has ever leaked inside. We did just have a massive rain storm and this was the first time I moved the Jeep since. Last years leak came after a large snow storm where snow and ice was melting on the roof for a day.

Mine leaked from the roof rack screws. The screws have O-rings on them. I placed RTV onthe screws.

Cheers Steve

Ive heard about the roof rack screws leaking before. You think a bad seal would allow water to penetrate the roof and leak onto the top of the headliner?

I keep hearing people say they have had the roof rack leak. I owned my jeep for nearly 6 months before replacing the missing roof rack and never had any leaks with the holes completely open. Guess I was lucky if it does leak there.

You sure its not coming in from one of the door seals?

Grab a garden hose and find the leak

Thats the thing it has never really leaked before. It was just a few drops coming in around the headliner, which it also did last winter on one occasion. I've never seen any water before through all the other rain and snow storms. Thats why it seems to be a unique occurance that only happen under the right conditions.

I replace the outer weather seals this past spring and the inner gasket seals seem ok. I just don't understand how water is penetrating the roof and getting abover the headliner.

Do you park on an incline?

Nope, no incline. It's a flat driveway.

If your drain lines are not plugged, then having a leak from the roof rack will not be a problem. You need to have both a leak and plugging of the drains in order to get water on the headliner / into the cabin. There is a TSB on this topic, and it does talk about the screws leaking as a potential problem.

I hear a snap/crack noise sometimes when I take sharp left turns. Sounds like something shifting or poping due to cold (hard to explaing). I heard that noise the morning early this week when the drops of water leaked into the cabin. Same side as the leak but its hard to pinpoint exactly where the sound came from. I wonder if this is the source of the breach.

I've had a similar leak over the rearmost passenger side window since I bought it. Resealed the roof rack, didn't help at all. For the life of me I can't see where it's coming in.

Now the issue may be worse. I didnt use the jeep yesterday, it sat through a rain storm and then the water froze overnight. This morning it was covered in ice and frost (inluding the interior surfaces of the windows). Drove it to the parking garage at the train station today but when I backed out to come home from the station a stream of water came down from the front of the headliner along the rearview mirror and over the headliner abover the passenger window where it had before. Water is getting above the headliner there from somewhere but I don't know where or what to do.

But that much water through the roof rack from only a small rain shower? It almost seems to me like its breaching the winshield or more likely somewhere in the sunroof.

This is the first time you mentioned a sun roof. It have has a drain that needs to be clear.
