Interior lights stay on & no power to VIC please help!

Ok here is the rundown...

98 grand cherokee laredo...

interior lights are staying on when doors are closed.

yes I tried the adjustment slider, it is not all the way up...

Also the VIC has not had power for a while but it hasn't been a problem before but now I am afraid it is somehow related...

Also once you put the key in and turn it to acc the lights turn off so I'm not sure if it could be the door switch or not... my thinking is if it is the door switch, the lights would stay on even once you turn it to acc..

I have done a good amount of research before posting this thread...
the general consensus is a bad BCM.. which is a very expensive part unless bought used, and from what I have read if you replace with a used BCM it can be very risky if you don't get a matching one...

idk I am out of ideas. I would love to hear what you guys have to say.

Thanks...

I will try to add in any more info that is needed....

I just signed on to ask about the same problem. Same year as well. All interior lights as well as the little ring around the ignition are lit up. What are you calling the Vic?

Wait... Instrument cluster? If so mine does work.

I tried hunting mine down for the first six months I had my ZJ, then I got sick of it and installed a toggle switch.

Check the door jam buttons, wiring in the door boot, rear hatch switch, and the relay.

yeah courtesy lights, my bad...

I tried going to all the door jam switches and manually pushing them in and that didn't seem to be the problem...

I then tried to check the relay but the owners manual did not exactly match up to what I was seeing...

I haven't tried the rear hatch yet, that might be an idea..

could you elaborate on "wiring in door boot"?

thanks everyone for the responses, got more responses here then in electrical sub-forum!

that's because the electrical forum fights the general populace of gremlins. we fight the ones who attack zjs... special forces so to speak.

for the courtesy lamps, it's going to have to be one of four things:

1) closed door ajar switch (these are normally open) or wire to bcm is shorted to ground. These wires will be tan with a stripe.
2) bcm is sending constant ground on brown/ light green wire or the output wire from the bcm (brown/ light green)to the courtesy lamp relay is shorted to ground
3) bad courtesy lamp relay
4) bad bcm

For the VIC, check power at the connector. 10 is ground. 2 is hot from battery. 16 is hot from switch.

Is any of this wired into the radio? I ask because I installed an aftermarket CD player a few weeks before this started.

the panel lamp driver from the bcm is tied to the radio. it may be better to start your own thread. doesnt sound like the same problem
