Interchanging Alternators

dose anybody know if you can interchange a alternator from a 98(5.9) GC to a 97(4.0)GC? im looking to upgrade for more amp and ebay has some reasonalbe priced replacments compared to autozone

yes you can, i run one on my 93 witha 4.0, just swap out the little black boot on the back of the alternator due to the different orentation that they have, you can swap pulleys but its not neccessary....i just run my belt on the back set of grooves and leave the 1 groove empty

is it worth the hastle or should i just pay more money for a direct fit?

its as direct fit you can get other than a 2 min spent with a 10 mm swapping the little black boot on the back..other than that it bolts right in

cool im going to do it, hopfully it will accomindate for all my acessorys i have added, plus mines almost done for so it time to upgrade. thanks again

i installed it after adding a tarus fan and it helped out tons
