Intake Manifold?

Been lurking for a while and picked up all kinds of good info. Asking for help from you knowledgable people. I have a 98 ZJ 4.0 and in the process of replacing a cracked exhaust manifold with a Banks Torque Tube. I have everything taken off including the 4 bolts holding on the intake manifold, but the intake manifold does not want to budge. I assume this is normal and you just have to beat(with a rubber mallet) it to knock it loose and then pull it out or do they just slide off and I am missing something?

Just on a side note the Haynes manual sucks for the 98 ZJ 4.0, at least engine wise. My engine had a few different parts/brackets and other pieces not mentioned.

Once the power-steering pump is removed and all the bolts underneath the manifolds (these are hard to see from above, look from the ground up to insure they are all removed) it should come off. There is a dowel pin or two, for alignment) so it must come off perpendicular to the engine. Therefore, it will not slide parallel to the engine. There are eleven bolts in total that must be removed from the two manifolds.

I did exactly what you are doing right around this time last year with a Banks on my '97.

You should not need to beat on anything. Once you get the PS pump off and all of the bolts holding the intake to the engine, it should come right off without help.

Kentman: Is the picture, in your avatar, a pic of just the exhaust manifold without the intake manifold bolted on yet? It sure looks nice. Mine has developed a very small leak, so headers will be a summer job!
I know they are one of the best money can buy and cost and arm & a leg. With so many miles on mine I will have to research other manufactures as well.

Right now I am struggling with my Yoke Pinion Seal replacement. I have to run out and pick up a 1 1/8” deep-well socket for the nut. A great Easter project.

I want to thank you all for your quick replies. Just started back on the install and if I would have read the manual it clearly states the remaining four retaining bolts are located under the intake manifold. They are a pain in the a$$, but after removing the intake manifold came right off. Thanks
