installing a gear 42RE instead of 46RH on a ZJ 1995 V8 - 5.2

Hi Dears,
Having some complications with my gearbox 46RH on my Grand Cherokee ZJ V8 - 5.2 1995
Would like to know if I can install a 42RE gearbox and if it will work great with my engine.
And what will be the different issues

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to JF.
To my knowledge, the 42re is for the 4.0 only.
Others will chime in, if I'm wrong.

Nope. Different bolt pattern and electronics. Rebuild or another 46RH is the only way to go. It wouldn't hold up behind the 5.2 anyway. Your 5.2 is OBDI electronics and 96+ ZJ's were OBDII.
Even if you found a 44RE that would bolt up you would still lack the electronics. The 46RH is hydraulically controlled and the 42/44RE are electric.

Thanks PolkaPower
You confirmed my concern regarding the electronic
42RE will bolt up with my engine but the electroic side will be impossible.

It will not bolt up either. The bolt pattern is different.
