Inner axle seal/axle tube seal.

I have a leaky axle seal on my passenger side and I know it's from the inner seal where axle slide into. It happen after I installed new axles. I'm trying to find this seal any where and no body makes them anymore? I was wondering if Axle tube seal where it sits on the outside will work the same?

Something like this.

I still have the cv boot style axle though. If not, where can I find a replacement seal?

I have those axle seals. Got them from 4wd hardware. Another company has copied the design.

BTW, these are intended to keep dirt & water from entering the axle tube not to keep oil inside the diff. If you have oil leaking out then you need to replace the oil seal.

They are available from Alloy USA, i got some from 4wd.com too.
But i agree that those are intended as a dust-grime seal and not as an oil seal, do it right and replace the leaking seal before you grenade your diff!
(You are pulling the axles anyways to install the dust shields...)

That and you'd probably have to fill it with 10 quarts of diff fluid...

It is hard to find them in stock in most parts stores as the demand is low. I know Napa has them but here are two links by just searching "D30 axle seal" on google.

Jeep Dana 30 Axle Shaft Seal JEE8121781 - 4Wheelers Supply

Omix-Ada: 16526.02 - Inner Axle Oil Seal, Dana 30

If it were me I'd go with the Spicer.

You have to pull the diff out to replace the inner seals. A bit more work than just the shafts (tie rod, diff cover, bearing caps, carrier, etc)

Those seals won't work for you anyways...the CV joint is too big. Like everyone else said, you need to replace the inner seals. Replace both while you're in there - it is stupid to only do one (shops will do this).

Sure it is, but what i meant it is that you'll get your hands dirty anyways, so better to just bite the bullet and do it all while you're at it

I didnt replace the seals when I pulled apart the front axle last night. Not too long ago either. I'm still looking for seals and I haven't tried Napa yet.

I was having an arguement with my dad earlier about the seal. I asked him to go to napa as a favor to see if they have any seals while I was at work. He went and talked to this guy about the seal. My dad keeps thinking that its the outer seal where the cv boot would be and I tried to tell him that we don't have one at all period. He said the part service told him that there a new desgin to it and he bought it to bring home to show me. When I saw it, I told him I believe its the seal for the inner, he said no it's for the outside where the cv boot is.

Now, you guys tell me, here a picture of the seal. Who's right? Inner seal next to the differential or outside where the axle is?

Here's a picture.

Father and son argument about seal.

Seal is for a front axle tube on dana 30. It leaks.

Thats an inner. I have one just like it. The other side is different for my disconnect housing. Don't even bother unless you change both, since you have to pull the whole axle apart anyway. Also make sure the shafts are clean where they contact the seals.

He bought me both side anyhow. So it's inner after all. Next to the carrier correct?
