Infinity stereo interchange?

I'm havibg trouble with my stereo. Only the front dash tweeters work. After doing a search I have a feeling the amp isnt being turned on. After removing the stereo it seems as if theres a wire connector thats disconnected. Its a small female connector with what looks like 2 small pin hole type connections.
Is this the amp turn on connector? Also it seems as if only the gray connector is working and not the black.

The stereo has bee replaced and may not be a direct replacement although its a 5-band Eq. Infinity model with cd controls.

So, my questions are...
1. Whats that connector for?
2. Is there an internal fix for the black connector?
3. Can I install an Infinity model with the built in CD player? (I'd prefer this route)

Who has one for sale? Reading all of the 'I replaced my stereo threads' I know theres some floating around!!!

thanks,
Jim

you want an infinity cd player head unit?
I have one, the display does not work, otherwise it works fine.
reply if you are interested, we will talk about a price.

It is in my 94 JGC. The only reason i am getting a new head unit is so i can buy one that has an AUX input for my mp3 player.

Thanks for the offer on the CD player but I'll pass on that particular unit. MY GC has the steering wheel controls and I believe thats what the 2-wire harness is for. I kind of anal about things and I'd like one as close to perfect as possible..

Thanks,

Jim

just to let you know. ther eis a 50 dollar piece you can get to keep the sterring wheel controls. I had to get one when i got my clarion headunit. Well worth it. the only place to ount it so it will work is below the lid of the center console to the right ...the far right...otherwise the shifter will block it when its in drive and the IR wont reach the headunit. i wanted to keep my steering wheel controls so i bought it...not too bad to program either

in case you were wondering, the amp is turned on by the power antenna lead ... just hook that up to (preferably your amp remote) wire coming from the radio and it should all work... at least thats how it was in my XJ with infinity.

hmm good point ... yes I remember now ... no sound at all until the amp was turned on...

yes... hey, what a good excuse to get a new (read: better) amp and some nice component speakers for the front!!! unless of course you plan on making a high water mark inside your car that covers the speakers....

Ok, my tweeters work so I guess its the amp. Can the channels be fixed or should I buy a new/used Infinity amp? Will an aftermarket amp plug-n-play with the current system as long as its a 6-channnel amp?

Good point.

Where is the CD unit located?

Is it a plug and play for a 94 GC with the Infinity Gold cassette system?

TallPAul, I've been doing alot of searching and theres basicaly 3 or 4 different stereos and they all interchange as long as you have the big grey and big black connectors on the back. Grounding is slightly different and theres a seperate connector if you have controls in the steering wheel.

Theres a basic cassete model, a cassette model with CD changer controls (this unit has markings on the radio preset buttons and a CD changer plug on the back), and the cassette/CD unit which has a CD slot along the top. All are more or less plug-n-play.
