Infinity Gold

Guys,

I have a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd -- has the Infinity Gold system with the amp -- I replaced the speakers that were busted with an aftermarket set and they sound like **** -- they cannot handle the bass - i have the 5 band graphic equalizer from the factory and i have to have it all the way down -- so what speakers can i get that sound good with the amp and headunit from the factory? I want a little bit of bass to go with the rest... thanks.

ditch all the factory componets
Buy a high powered aftermarket deck and a line converter to make those speakers work

I replaced the oem infinity gold speakers that were shot in both my 97 ZJ and my wife's 98 Zj with infinity reference 6012i. They came with mounting brackets to fit directly into the oem locations and can handle the output of the amp. They sound great. Crutchfield has them on sale for 69.99 a set, i got mine on ebay. I bought 4 sets for a total of $107 shipped.

I believe the amp is 120 or 160w. The speakers are 6.5". There are tweeters in the dash, drivers in the front doors, and 2 way speakers in the rear doors. The Infinity 6012i I used are all 2 way and rated at 60w RMS. There is a crossover in the amp so the extra tweeters in the new front speakers wasn't a problem. I don't know what it sounded like when the system was new, but it sounds great now.

I recommend the infinity 6012i also. I just put a set in the rear doors of my wj with the factory amp which is 180 watts and the factory head unit. They sound AMAZING much better than the so called "premium" infinity factory full range speakers that were in there before. It sounds 10 times better and is actually louder than the stock speakers were which means the 6012i are very efficient which is great given I am using the factory system. I recommend those speakers for your ZJ they should be able to handle the bass and not distort they work great in my wj. Check out sounddomain.com they have them for $51.99 a pair with free shipping right now. They ship fast too. Good luck!

What did you do about the tweeters in the dash?
Also did you need adapter brackets to install?

Infinity Reference 6012i all the way. When I bought my '98 ZJ, it had all stock equipment, but the speakers had been replaced with these. It sounded GREAT, I kept trying to figure out how he could say it had the "Infinity Gold" system, as old as it is, and it sound so good! Until I took to door panels off and found the new speakers...

The original tweeters in mine are still in perfect condition, so I used 2 crossovers to divert the low and high frequencies going to the front speakers and dash tweeters. The original tweeters can handle alot; I'm not sure in dB count, but they can get loud enough to make my friends ears bleed without them getting scratchy.

Homemade brackets would be required to install new tweeters in the stock dash location. There are no aftermarket mounting brackets.

Yeah I'm in the same boat in terms of blown speakers. I'm thinking of picking up the 6012i's.

Could someone clear up my confusion?

Should I buy 4 of the 6012i's and put two in front and two in rear? (or are the front ones different from rear?)

What do you folks mean by crossovers for the front tweeters? (Sorry, no clue when it comes to audio stuff) Does anyone know a place or have pictures of this and how about one would go about doing it? I just thought they were direct replacements.

Thanks for any help

Light em I am driving a wj. I did replace my 2 1/2 dash tweeters with the infinity 3012i which are 3 1/2 2 ways I did have to cut some plastic to make them fit good but you can't see it because it is below the trim panel. It sound much better up front with those new 2 ways in the dash. The factory dash speakers aren't even true tweeters they are midrange speakers and thats what they play so the 2 ways a perfect up there nice highs and good vocals. I left the factory 6x9's woofers in my front doors because they are just mini subwoofers and only produce bass so I saw no real need to replace them yet because they sound good so far. And then I put the 6012i in the rear doors and now the system sounds much better than before.

I just changed mine two weeks ago, I got the upper crust style Best Buy, (costly) Infinity 2 or 3 ways(can't remember), and they rock, they sound twice as nice as what I had in there but then again they were all shot, sooo. But yea I would stick with Infinity though, good luck. JOE>

should be able to just buy the 6.5 from these places like these guys are saying -- the door panel pops off if you take out all the screws -- make sure u get them all - front doors on the 94 have them under the arm rest, one in the arm rest, one in the door handle and one up there close the mirror cover on the inside - back doors are the same except for the mirror cover at the top -- once u pull off the door panel, unplug the electrical connectors, and you'll see the speaker at the bottom -- just remove and re-install --
