worked on it today and discovered that the lock cylender was messed up which in turn messed up my switch.

the chipped off piece that started it all.

The lock cylinder in my 95 did the same thing to me. I hate having 2 keys to my ZJ, maybe one day I'll get one from the stealership keyed to my door locks.

start by removing the 3 t-20 screws under the steering wheel.

remove the tilt adjuster, it just unscrews.

remove the 3 t-20 tamper proof screws that surround the switch.

disconect the 2 wire harnesses. there is one on the front side and one on the bottom.

this is the hardest part. put the key in the lock cylender and turn it to the start position. you will see a pin on the side, in this picture it is on the upper left.

push this pin in with a screwdriver, turn the key to the off position, pull the key out and the cylendar should pop out, remove the pin for use on your new lock cylender if that applies. to put it in the new switch, turn the switch to the start position. insert the cylender w/o the key in to the new switch. insert the key, turn it to the on position, push the cylender in and put the old pin in the new hole. and your done put every thing back together and start your jeep.
