Ignition Pulse Wiper Module Roasted Again

For those of you who read my Ignition Pulse Wiper Module repair post are fimilar with this problem.
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/ignition-pulse-wiper-module-repair-project-279739/

Started the jeep this AM turned the wipers on to clear snow snow and then I smelled burning electronics, turned them off then back on. They stayed on would not shut off, put it to the off position push the fluid and the stopped dead in the the middle of the windshield, and now no longer return to resting position . The added stress from ice and snow and not being able to return to the home position seems to draw more current through the circuit causing this problem. Soldering it backup now

I seem to have the worse luck soldering it like you have done. I can’t seem to get the solder to stick on the flat copper ribbon/wire. Therefore I usually go to the nearest component solder joint, and attach a jumper at these two points (indicated by the arrows)

I do not have a decent photo editor. I used MS Paint and therefore it looses the color converting the file to bitmap. I then tried to use MS Picture Office Picture Manager. Am I stupid or is it impossible to add things like arrows in this program? Its OK to call me stupid … my wife does it all the time.

Yeah the board is hard to solder to there is a coating over all the electronics even when scrapped off there is some left over. I just scrap off the coating, apply heat to the tip to the trace and let it get nice and hot, then lay a stripped piece of wire along the trace and apply the solder. I am pretty good at it although you cant tell from the pics and the was a half assed job. I would suggest cleaning the surface well with a fine grit sand paper, then rubbing alcohol, the purchase some rosin apply a little to the trace and heat it up to it boils off, then apply the solder it will stick to copper like glue and look really nice! The important thing to remember is the soldering iron is not a paint brush solder will flow towards heat so put the tip where you want solder to flow to and apply the solder to the opposite side letting it flow to the tip

What really pisses me off is when you try to apply solder to something other than copper wire, and the solder just rolls off … like it was mercury or something.

haha yeah I used to get soooo annoyed with soldering then I took a class on it and I love it! It does that because the surface is not clean, sand paper, rubbing alcohol, and straight rosin are you friend and dont be afraid to really heat that surface up.

Gotta goto work now yay!

What is straight rosin? Is this the solder type composition?
I do use flux.

Ditto on that - of course I found this post right after I figured this out on mine. I used fine buss wire like you did.
