Idles So Low It Stalls After Deep Water
So a few weekends ago i found myself in this situation. . .
Well as most of you know the engine got hydrolocked, but i got all the water out and it drove pretty well fine all the way home.
Well now my problem is that when i start it up, if i dont rev it to like 4000~5000 RPM for about 30 seconds, it will just idle really really low and cut off. Im talkin about 250~500 RPM low. What could be causing this. ??? Once ive revved it for the 30 seconds it will idle around 500 just fine, kinda rough, but fine.
Could my IAC have gone bad in the water, or something like that? Or could it be fuel filter related. Its got brand new plugs and wires. So Dont suggest that.
Thanks Thanks
Dylan

Did you TPS get wet? It's possible that or the IAC got wet. Do you have dielectric grease in your connectors?

I think i put some on the IAC last time i took it off but im not positive. Easily could have gotten the TPS wet, but would that cause my low low idle at startoff??
Mind you i wasnt planning on Going into anything deeper then my rockers. . . This one hit me by supprise. Looked like a puddle.

Why not start easy and free and check to see if any engine codes are stored? No reader required..
If nothing is stored you could just start removing the throttlebody and sensors and giving it a good cleaning..
Replace the IAC, im sure if it got water in it would be sticking causing the stall.

I ended up fixing it the old fashioned way. I stuck a fishing weight at the end of the throttle cable. Now it idles around 1500, but boy does she start son. Alot easier then replacing sensors.

Are you saying you clamped a split shot lead on your cable?
That's about the same kind of technology as the e-brake cable on this Ranger my buddy brought by my house today. It was a pair of Vice-Grips clamped to the cable acting as a splice taped up with electrical tape.
Why not fix it the right way instead of cramming it into gear at 1500 rpms?
You say you have new plugs and wires, but have you checked under your distributor cap and cleaned out any water that may have got into there?

Just made it through a big mud bog on the side we were comming from. Was turning around to come home, and sunk.....From the Drivers seat it looked like a minor puddle. . .I was wrong.

Just looking at the pic, you would think that it was indeed a little puddle. Who would have thought that the sides of that hole would drop off as much as they did.
One more reason to test the water before going in...

Gonna check out that cap and rotor tomorrow. About how much is a CHEAP TPS??? Im not really worried about the IAC, checked it out today and it looked ok. If none of that works, them imma stick with my Ghetto rigged Fishin weight.
And i wanted to use my Temp Gauge to see what the water was like before i went swimmin.

Darth,
street tires and mudding? You look like you're gonna be spending some money fixing your Jeep up really soon.
