Idle problem on cold start

Hi,

I have a 98 ZJ 4.0 inline 6. This morning, on a cold start it would not idle by itself unless I kept my foot on the gas. This happened once before, about two weeks ago, but between then and now it's been fine. I'm not certain, but I think the problem went away if I kept my foot on the gas, then moved the transmission to "D" - it's almost as if the engine wont idle in "P" or "N" by itself. This might have just been coincidence as the car may have warmed up or something.

Any ideas ?

try testing/replacing your IAC motor (idle air control) not sure where it is on the I6, should be near the throtle body.

not sure if that could be your problem but it was mine.....i was late to work many times because of that.....then one day it just died in the middle of an intersection after comming home from checking out a band at a bar. my time in my center console kept resetting also......(sign my battery was low)
