I need to make my ZJ NOT RUN, yes you heard me

Ok, so previous owner of my ZJ, A.K.A. my sister, is coming home and she feels entitled to take my Jeep up two states into Vermont so she can go skiing. This was my big weekend, I was going to change the oil, get the exhaust fixed, and also replace all the ignition components.

First off, you have to realize that this ZJ belongs to my father, as I am not old enough to pay for the insurance, etc. MY sister drove it for two years when she was in high school, and has come under the false impression that it is HER car and she owns it, etc, etc. whereas the truth is she went away to college and my parents gave me the car. Yeah its a sad truth but I love my ZJ dearly. I get little intervention from my parents on these issues, as my sister is unnegotiable and will do whatever it takes to get what she wants (Now you know why I'm working 2 jobs over the summer to get a new Jeep)

I told her it wasnt smart to drive it far, because it has been backfiring and it needed an oil change badly. Well, as usual, she doesnt (cuss word) care because its just a (cuss word) car. Well, I'm sure many of you would agree it most definately is not JUST a car, its a Jeep. This is also consistent with the way she treated it, never changed a single fluid for the 30k miles she used the car. I was disgusted!

I'm planning on playing it off and saying it broke and was towed to the dealer, (while parking it at my friends houses) but I need a backup plan. If she gets a hold of my Jeep, I dont want her to get very far. Preferably, I would like it to start up, but have a horrible idle and stall itself out. (But do realize I dont want to do any damage, I want something thats easily reverseable once she leaves) I told her that the jeep is in serious need of repair and she didnt beleive me so maybe staging some engine stalling would make her give up.

No I'm not evil and inconsiderate, I just really dont think 500+ agressive (yes shes an agressive driver) highway miles should be put on a jeep with overdue oil change, and a hole in the exhaust, and a backfiring engine, all over the course of a couple days. And she doesnt see that. Plus she keeps horrible care of my ZJ, I always find gum under the seat and she likes to blast my brand new speakers with her crappy limewire quality songs, which can destroy speakers!

Please help!

Pull an important fuse under the hood that will still allow the starter to turn, but the engine not to fire. On my XJ, this was the Engine Control Fuse, not sure if ZJs have that though. I'm sure something similar would work anyways.

Or you could remove the rotor, or remove a couple of spark plugs, the options are endless.

Remove the auto shutdown relay. Simple and no tools required. It will start then shut down in 2 seconds

why dont you just pull out the fuel pump relay or something so it will crank and not start. i think that would be the easiest thing to do

If you want it to run like **** pull one of the spark plug wires off the plug but kinda make it look like its still connected, if you dont want it to run at all just take out the rotor in the distributor.

Or you could tell your sister that she is not, in fact, entitled to take YOUR Jeep anywhere, and that you are still busy repairing her negligence. The Jeep is not currently road trip worthy, that's that, tell her to quit her *****ing.

This was my original approach, and actually it still is. But she has found ways to hunt me down, she actually showed up at my high school, came into my classroom, and embarrassed me in front of everybody until I handed over the keys... Honestly, she will take it to the point of physical fighting and calling police, so I just try to avoid her. I tell you, she's messed up in the head. I just need a backup plan just in case she ends up getting to it

x3 that would be very easy and effective. You need to make her understand it is no longer her jeep.

do the ASD if you pull something like fuel pump fuse she will probably just keep trying to start the jeep and kill the starter. lol. so pull the ASD relay. easiest, quickest, and most harmless to the jeep.

I've really been letting myself be pushed around over this whole thing, I need to take a stand. My parents both agree with me, but both are terrified enough of my sister to say anything to her.

There comes a point where enough is enough, and I just cant stand seeing her drive my poor ZJ into the ground.

If she was a nice, conservative driver, who asked me if she could borrow it for a weekend nicely, and it came back in good shape and some extra gas, sure, I'd loan my Jeep out, but I dont like people who wont negotiate and talk to me like I'm trash!

And name on the title is my Dad's name, and we are both insured under his name. She has a rough record, with 5 accidents, causing her to have double the insurance rate as I do, and I have a clean slate. So, if she called the cops, they wont give the car over to her right? If a cop came after me, I'd tell him/her that it is a family dispute gone wrong, and that I have full permission to be using the car.

Take that stand and tell her she cant have it. Tell her all the crap you have to fix and to go get a rental or get a friend to drive.
