i need help fast please!!

my spider gears and limited slip are stripped and ruined in my dana 35c. my buddy is getting me some with 88,000 miles on them from his work, i just need some help cause i have a whole trip planned to little moab this weekend and i am getting them in the next twenty minutes and want to put them in today but how hard is it? any tips on doing it?? anyone done this before?? any input would be appreciated!! thanks

thats not something that can be done in a matter of minutes, or hours. shoot maybe even days for your first time.

well i got it all out and torn apart, just thinking about putting a locker in before i throw it back in.... the carrier and gears of the jeep it came out of didnt have LS so i can put i locker in, correct? by the way it took me half hour to do, not hard. maybe im just lucky

good luck getting the preload and everything set up correctly

you should have researched a little more before attempting to swap out a carrier and gears, its not as simple as just bolting the new stuff in


judging your abilities by what i have seen in your posts, you can expect to pay a shop to finish this job for you, just throwing that out there now so you arent taken by surprise when it happens

i would never do that. i guess you think im stupid but i work in a shop. i just put a new tranny that i rebuilt in, i have already swapped my front axle for another lp dana 30, i have changed from two different 249 transfercases with one that i rebuilt (new vc), i did an engine swap on my last jeep because i didnt wanna rebuild it. i have put three different lifts on my jeep and am currently in the process of building long arms. oh ya and did i mention i work in a shop? on cars? all day? ha ha just cause i have stupid questions doesnt mean i am stupid, thanks tho!!

p.s. i have another dana 35 from my scrap jeep, no LS but hey if worst comes to worst i can swap that in!

dont get offended im just trying to help you not get in over your head

your asking how to install spider gears... since you created a thread asking how to install spider gears then anyone would assume you have never set up the preload/backlash and whatnot in a differential before.

i as well have swapped out both axles on my jeep for better axles, installed my entire 6.5" long arm lift ( including 2 different lifts previous to my current one ) and replaced my transfercase and done many other things, and i will not attempt to tackle differential gearing. I pay a guy locally to set up my gears for me

well i like to learn things first hand, sorry for being kinda an ***, but ya looks like we are one and the same kinda. spider gears dont seem that hard and when you have a spare jeep same year, engine, axles, everything and work at a shop with people that CAN do this then what do you have to lose? i just am wondering so i can do it without asking anyone from my work to help, this place is supposed to help correct? i was asking in case someone has done this before and has input. off topic- what determines the gearing in an axle?? spider gears? stupid question i know but i just need an answer not a smart *** remark

The ring and pinon gear does. I have done sevral carrier swapps and still takes me about 6 hours to do and i have housing spreader and oll the tools made just for that. My first one took me 3 days. good luck I am sure there is some right ups on here if not google it cant just be expained you need pics showing you as well

The spider gears themselves can be thrown right in and it takes only a few minutes. However if your talking about swapping a limited slip and carrier I assume then that is a whole different ballgame. Gear setup is not hard but it takes alot of time and patience. Also going down to moab on a fresh setup is not the best thing in the world either.

okay thanks you guys! i got a whole new carrier with a lock right locker, im gonna throw it in then take it to my buddy that does re-gears and lockers and have him look it over!

well i finished it, put a new carrier out of an open diff with a lock right locker. wasnt to bad the c-clips were a pain in the *** though! its 2:30 in the morning so i will put fluids in her tomorrow and see how it is! hope it dont moan!!!

ok i am confused.. a open diff is the carrier. are you just talking the parts in side the ope diff? like putting in a detriot locker?
