I looked in faqs what gears do I have??
I have a 1998 cherokee laredo/limited I6 motor
Beings it has the tow package would it have the 3.73's or would it still have the 3.55? Way to check without pulling the diff covers? I have a ford 8.8 in it that the previous owner put in the back but I need a front end. The pinion gear is chewed up and the bearings are shot... Help please.

Tow package should have the 3.73's, but the best way to be sure is to check tags if they are still on the diffs, or just get a build sheet.

Is it a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee? Nevermind, I just saw your sig.
Here is some info you may find useful: How do I determine my gear ratio?

Put it up in the air turn the rear tires and count the driveshaft turns. If it turns 3.75 times to the tires one it 3.73, 3.5 turns of the driveshaft =3.55. I know there close so make a mark on the drive shaft.
With the 8.8 in their its hard to tell. Is it lifted? Might have been regeard some where |

You may have to spin a tire 2 complete revolutions depending on what type of differential you have and also depending on what the opposite tire is doing.
It will be obvious by the results. If the driveshaft only rotates 1 1/2 or 2 times per 1 tire revolution, you have to do 2 complete tire revolutions.
